Finding the Perfect Roommate/s
Greetings Royalty!
I hope that the following tips are most beneficial for you in your search. Trust me; it will definitely save you time, money, and peace in the long run. Don't settle. Ask questions, even the most uncomfortable ones, and trust your instincts. God bless and have a great day!! 😊
Tips for Finding the Perfect Roommates:
- Trust your instincts. If your instincts are telling you, “No, this is not it,” listen. You will save yourself a lot of time, money, energy and most importantly have a peace of mind.
- Conduct background checks if you are unsure of the particular individual. Is there a criminal record that you should be aware of? Are they a sex offender? What is their credit like? Are they responsible with their finances?
- Are they clean? How do they define clean? How often do they clean? Daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, never?
- Ask tough questions even ones that may seem uncomfortable such as the following:
a.
Do
you drink or smoke? How often? Inside or outside?
b.
How
often do you like to have house guests? Parties?
c.
What
is your credit score?
d.
Are
there any health concerns that I should be aware of? Any allergies?
e.
Do
you have a food preference? (no one wants to come home to a house that reeks of
seafood all the time)
f.
Do
you like to wash dishes, place them in the dishwasher, or leave them in the
sink?
g.
Do
you have pets or plan to adopt one soon?
h.
Do
you have kids that would share the living space and room with you?
i.
Would
you like to share household items?
j.
How
do you handle disagreements?
k.
Are
you loud, quiet, or in-between?
l.
Do
you need quiet hours to study? If so, what is your time preference?
m.
What
do you do for work? What is your work schedule?
n.
What
do you like to do for fun?
o.
Do
you pay rent before, on, or after the due date?
p.
Are
there any abnormal and/or sacrificial religious practices that you are involved
with that I should be aware of? (lol, seriously ask as you would want to know
beforehand instead of coming home to an odd smell, smoke filling the air, and
scary chants)
- Pay attention to EVERY detail about them whether they are punctual or late, neat or sloppy, honest or sketchy, organized or unorganized, able to communicate effectively or profane.
- Determine how the place and/or space will be decorated. What is yay or nay?
- Create a roommate agreement and have each party to sign it addressing the rules of the household and/or how things will be split and organized if needed. If you sincerely trust each other and have great communication, don’t stress the agreement. It would be great for court proceedings should anything happen.
